David Lee Marks is an American guitarist who is best known as one of the original members of the Beach Boys. Growing up in Hawthorne, California, Marks was a neighbor to the original band members and regularly attended their family reunions. After leaving the group, Marks joined the snipers and performed and recorded as a session musician. Marks joined the Beach Boys in February 1962, replaced Al Jardine with a rhythm guitar, and performed on the band's first four albums, Surfin 'Safari, Surfin' U.S.A., Surfer Girl and Little Deuce Coupe. Because he did not appear on the 1961 single "Surfin '", the group's first performance became the "Beach Boys", most historians consider him to be a true founding member of the group. In August 1963, he left the group due to personal problems with manager Murry Wilson.
He was a founding member of The Beach Boys. From 1962 until 1963, he was a member of the band, appearing on their first four albums.
