Daniel James White is an American politician who assassinated San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk on Monday, November 27, 1978, at City Hall. In a controversial decision that led to the legal use of legal slang "in defense of Twinkie," White was convicted of manslaughter rather than murder in the deaths of Milk and Moscone. White served a five-year sentence and a seven-year prison sentence. Less than two years after his release, he returned to San Francisco, where he ultimately committed suicide.
